Ducks Quickest on Draw, Beat Revs on Western Night
by Brian Bohl | Staff Writer - Atlantic League Independent | Tuesday, July 31 2007
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Pete Rose Jr. didn’t need to wear a white hat to be the Ducks’ hero last night. The hot-hitting first baseman celebrated western night at Citibank Park by bashing a three-run homer, providing the bulk of his team’s offensive production. That one fifth-inning swing was enough support for Lance Davis, who allowed just one run on six hits in seven innings for a 4-1 win over York in front of an announced crowd of 6,104. The Ducks and Revolution each lead their respective divisions, with the two clubs now claiming 12-5 records to share the Atlantic League’s best mark.

Cesar Fills In Fine for Ducks
by Brian Bohl | Staff Writer - Atlantic League Independent | Monday, July 30 2007
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY— When injuries or unexpected emergencies occur during a major league season, teams can usually complete a trade for established veterans to fill the void. But trades are rarer in the Atlantic League, forcing the league’s eight teams to look elsewhere to bolster a lineup or pitching staff if a player leaves the club or gets hurt. That’s the route the Ducks took after losing Damian Rolls to a season ending thumb injury. To fill that void, manager Dave LaPoint signed utility player Dionys Cesar from Mexico. The 30-year-old made a splash in his debut, finishing 2-4 with a RBI and a run scored in a victory over Somerset on Friday.

Ducks Living In A Revolution
by Brian Bohl | Staff Writer - Atlantic League Independent | Wednesday, May 23 2007
The Ducks officially are in the midst of a five-game road trip, though the two-game set against the expansion York Revolution is being played at the Camden Riversharks stadium while construction of York’s new park is being completed. An afternoon game at the neutral site meant a crowd size that failed to hit triple digits, though the Ducks still suffered a 5-3 loss to the Revolution yesterday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. A youth league game usually attracts a bigger crowd, a product of the delayed construction on York’s 5,306-seat Sovereign Bank Stadium that is set to open by the middle of next month. The Ducks are having trouble getting anything generated on the road so far, falling to 8-8 overall while going 1-3 to start the road trip.

Navarrete Looks for Ray of Hope in Forging MLB Career
by Brian Bohl | Staff Writer - Atlantic League Independent | Tuesday, May 22 2007
A middle infielder who bats leadoff usually is not the odds-on favorite to be a potent power hitter. But peruse the Atlantic League home run leader board and the name “Ray Navarrete” is there at the top, ahead of Somerset corner outfielder Mike Lockwood. As the Ducks second baseman and leadoff hitter, Navarrete is putting up slugging numbers at a rate that puts him in the company of the independent league’s best home run hitters. Through the season’s first 17 games, the former Pirates and Mets farmhand is making an early push to shatter his own personal best in home runs, posting a league-leading five homers entering Monday night.
